Sam Southgate
I'm Sam, one of EM residents at Regions. I'm due to graduate in 2023. I got my MD from UConn but did a few things before that. I went to grad school at Yale, taught undergrads there for a few years, and got master's degrees in sociology and political science. I also have an MA in Middle Eastern studies from SOAS. Previously, I worked as a journalist, lived briefly in Damascus, and majored in philosophy. I'm originally from England.
I'm an active person who enjoys outdoor sports, especially rock climbing and whitewater kayaking, along with low-key hikes with my family and our two dogs. I love how accessible the outdoors is in Minnesota and hope to stay in the Twin Cities after residency.
Professionally, I do a lot of teaching at the University of Minnesota and always have fun working with med students in the sim lab or on shift. I really enjoy using point-of-care ultrasound clinically and love sharing that passion with others. I'm the current Chair of EMRA's Ultrasound Committee.
I wanted to join the Regions RAP team to help me stay current with the latest EM research and because I enjoy using FOAM resources. I spend a lot of time listening to podcasts and keep up to date by reading a number of the popular EM blogs. I also enjoy playing around with graphic and web design so wanted to contribute those skills to the project.
